Random Thoughts

I have been reading The Message the last few days, mostly Matthew 5-7, getting ready for our upcoming study. I was reading in Matthew 6 this week about "a life of God-worship."
"Don't hoard treasure down here where it gets eaten by moths and corroded by rust or--worse!--stolen by burglars. Stockpile treasure in heaven, where it's safe from moth and rust and burglars. It's obvious, isn't it?"..."You can't worship two gods at once. Loving one god, you'll end up hating the other. Adoration of one feeds contempt for the other. You can't worship God and Money both. If you decide for God, living a life of God-worship, it follows that you don't fuss about what's on the table at mealtimes or whether the clothes in your closet are in fashion. There is far more to your life than fhte food you put in your stomach, more to your outer appearance than the clothes you hang on your body."

I have read this many times, and it always hits home. I guess I am just not very consistently content with what I have. The world is so good at making me think I need to hoard treasures here--a bigger house, a nicer car, more clothes. Sometimes I even mask this with wanting what is best for my family! Scotty gently reminds me sometimes that our boys don't need more toys or a bigger house or any of that stuff. I know that, really I do, it is just hard to remember sometimes.

When bad things happen to people it really makes you look at your own life and put things into perspective. Please remember the Whitehead family this week as they tragically lost a wife/mother/daughter. They had two very young daughters and my heart just aches for what they family is going through right now. It makes me hug my family a little tighter. And for my family that is not here for me to hug--know that I love you!!

See, random thoughts. But that is all for now!
